Idris Elba dreams of bringing \'Only Fools and Horses\' back to TV screens.
The London-born actor has stepped into a comedic role with the launch of his self-penned show \'In The Long Run\', and Idris has admitted he\'s always had aspirations of playing the iconic Del Boy in the BBC sitcom.
He shared: "I wanted to try my hand at a comedic role.
"I always wanted to be in \'Only Fools And Horses\', I just never got the audition. Comedy\'s a challenge because I tend to ham it up."
Despite this, a BBC insider has revealed that the only way the show returns to TV screens is if it is given a completely fresh take.
The insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "There\'s always an appetite from the public for more \'Only Fools\' - but then there is the received wisdom you don\'t touch a classic.
"The only way it could be done is with a fresh spin."
Meanwhile, Idris recently revealed that his new TV role served as "therapy" for him.
The 45-year-old actor - who stars as Walter in his new semi-autobiographical comedy \'In The Long Run\' - admitted it was "emotional" playing the part because there were such strong parallels with his own dad, who passed away four years ago.
He explained: "My dad only passed about four years ago. It was emotional. Dressing up like him, it was good therapy.
"My dad was quite funny and a life of the party kind of guy."
