Doctor Who's Steven Moffat jokes he was 'drunk with power' when he made continuity error

Steven Moffat joked being "drunk with power" led to him knowingly making a mistake on \'Doctor Who\'.

The former showrunner took part in a fan watchalong of 2014 episode \'Listen\' this week - which sees The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman) tracking a monster which fed on children\'s fear - and he opened up about a continuity error in his script, which is a reference to William Hartnell\'s Time Lord from the 1960s.

Steven explained on Twitter: "\'Fear make companions of all of us!\' The very first time the Drr is nice to anyone in Dr Who, those are his words (we had to wait till ep 3.)

"Always loved the line, and the kindness that first emerged with it. This was my love letter to it. And in fact, I misquoted the line.

"Hartnell says \'of all of us\' and Jenna says \'of us all.\' Knew it was wrong, but couldn\'t let go of the way I\'d misremembered it for so long.

"Like, was the DG gonna fine me cos I misquoted Hartnell. Drunk with power, I was. (sic)"

Steven recently claimed he\'s "out of ideas" for \'Doctor Who\' after returning with a short story featuring Jodie Whittaker\'s Time Lord called \'The Terror of the Umpty Ums\'.

He explained: "I\'ve always said, and Russell [T Davies] has always said, I\'ll come back when there\'s an emergency. Well what do you call this?

"But no, I think that \'Doctor Who\' has to change hands and have new creators, new people involved.

"And remember, I wrote a ton of them! I think I\'m out of ideas. I don\'t have a single one left."

However, he was glad to have the opportunity to write a story featuring the current Thirteenth Doctor.

He added: "It was lovely to get a shot at Jodie, but I think Doctor Who\'s suffered enough at my hands."
