Benedict Cumberbatch has been one of the favorites for this award season, receiving
multiple nominations for his role as Phil Burbank in 'The Power Dog', probably the
movie with the most nominations and awards this season, written and
directed by Jane Campion, mostly known for being the first female director
to be nominated for an Academy Award, and the first female director to win a Palm d'Or,
after her film 'The Piano'.
Benedict Cumberbatch has always been an amazing actor, with lots of accolades for his past
roles, always having a lot of personality and poise to give for everything he does,
and with 'The Power of The Dog' a western physiological drama where Benedict
has a much darker role than the usual for him, he's a resentful man, paranoic,
always on guard, hateful and ready to judge everything and everyone around him,
like he does with Rose, the new girlfriend of his brother.
He definitely captures the essence of the character and the movie
is a really interesting drama worth watching to create your own opinion,
and see if you agree or disagree with the critics.
Kirsten Dunst is also prolific in this movie, with her role as Rose, and newcomer to
the Burbank ranch and girlfriend of Phil's (Benedict) brother, who makes
Phil really doubtful and paranoic, because he feels Rose is only taking
advantage of her brother for his money, since he thinks George, his brother,
and dumb and naive, easy to manipulate, and sees Rose a threat to his
family money, like a smart enchantress trying to seduce and use
his brother.
