Last night the world of entertainment celebrated the SAG Awards, one of the most important
awards of the season for both movies and TV shows, and in case you missed the ceremony,
here's a list of highlights from the night.
One of the most important categories of the night was the Best Actress in a Supporting Role,
with Ariana Debose, Ruth Negga, Cate Blanchett, Caitriona Balfe, and Kirsten Dunst nominated,
and not one front runner. Every one of them received various critical acclamations,
and every one of them had a lot of support from the public,
but Ariana Debose was the one to snatch up the award for her performance in West Side Story,
is not easy getting a nomination (therefore a lot more difficult to get a win) for a performance
in a Musical film, and she made history as the first openly queer Latina actress to win a SAG.
Definitely, she has become a powerhouse and an actress one shouldn't underestimate,
and there are two more awards that she has the opportunity to win (BAFTAs and Oscars).
Jessica Chastain has been consistent ever since her career started, and she already is accredited
to a SAG Award for her participation in 'The Help', and this year, she snatched the Best Actress
in a Leading Role category for her outstanding performance on 'The Eyes of Tammy Faye',
opening a conversation about the possibilities of her being the winner of the Oscar this year.
HBO production 'Succession' has been a fan favorite ever since the first season aired,
and they have been consistently nominated in every category they were submitted to.
So it was highly anticipated that they were snatching a few awards this night, but they
won one of the most important of the night, with Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble
in a Drama Series. No surprise, given that the 'Succession' cast is one of the strongest
we've seen on television in a long time. You can say whatever you want from the
writing or directing, but the cast is on another level.
It was a night full of surprises, and definitely proof that is a strong year for award season.
