'Heartstopper', originally a web-comic/graphic novel by English author Alice Oseman, is receiving a Live-Action
adaptation by Netflix, set to release this month, on April 22, starring Kit Connor and Joe Locke as the main characters,
Nick and Charlie, joined by a lot of other new actors like William Gao and Yasmin Finney, that are having their first
major role on a project as important and big as 'Heartstopper'
Alice Oseman is, to put it lightly, a really prolific author, and although all of her projects have something
especial to them, 'Heartstopper' seems to be the one that absolutely took away everyone's heart after it
became popular on social media, quickly turning from web-comic to published graphic novel and, of course,
an instant bestseller, with thousands of people talking about it and how important it was for LGBTQ+ representation.
Beyond the main couple, Nick and Charlie, bisexual and gay respectively, we have a lot of other LGBT characters
that get a spotlight to share their experiences, trans characters, lesbian characters, and a many more, and of course
is great seeing LGBTQ+ characters discovering their identities like normal teenagers, without their queerness
being used as a plot device to let us know how awful and disheartening their life is, and is great that Netflix is betting
on this type of queer media instead of tragic ones like the whole lot that have come before.
Although the graphic novel is still coming out, we are getting a TV show for the first volumes, and
hopefully, that means that it will have more seasons adapting to the upcoming volumes.
Add it to your list and don't pass on 'Heartstopper', this might be the perfect teen romance that you were looking
for.
