Elvis, the music legend himself, is receiving a new biopic narrating his life, through the eyes of the
groundbreaking director Baz Luhrmann, known for his excellent previous projects such as 'Moulin Rouge!',
'The Great Gatsby' and 'Strictly Ballroom', always using his unique lense and his flamboyant visual style
that of course, he maintained for 'Elvis', with some critics comparing it with the Wachowskis' 'Speed Racer'
in terms of visuals, and some others going as far as saying that the movie is a horrible acid trip back in time.
And you will be able to find out for yourself your own thoughts about the movie, since the worldwide release
is hitting theaters this Friday, June 24.
After the screenings at the Cannes Festival 2022, there weren't really many comments around Austin Butler and
his role as Elvis, nor praise, nor disdain, just nothing. And even the attendees that weren't professional movie critics
didn't have anything to say about it, which is really weird since when doing a biopic, your main focus should be the
protagonist and how much they're able to encapsulate the essence of the person they're portraying, especially
if it's someone who actually existed and a lot of people knew and loved.
But although the critics and audience didn't have an opinion, Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, said that
this is the first time that she feels like someone is able to transform into her father and capture his energy
on screen.
There's a history of biopics getting actors Oscar nominations, and even wins, unexpectedly, which we already saw
with Rami Malek, in a year that nobody imagined he was going to win the category,
so let's see what's the case with Austin Butler for the next ceremony.
