Taylor Swift released "Midnights" in the early hours of Friday morning and, in less than 24 hours, it became the most-played album in a single day on Spotify.
Music star Taylor Swift came out with Midnightsthis Friday and, in less than 24 hours, it became the most popular album on Spotify, the music platform says.
"And before the clock could even strike midnight on October 22nd, Taylor Swift broke the record for most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify history. Congratulations, @taylorswift13" Spotify told on Twitter.
Moreover, Midnights, Swift's tenth album, marks an emotional return to the pop path.
"How did I get this lucky, having you guys out here doing something this mind-blowing?!" Taylor wrote.
Besides, on Spotify, the American got short videos to comment on what keeps her awake at night,
and what gave her the inspiration for this work, which features her longtime collaborator, producer Jack Antonoff.
All 13 songs on the album are in the global top 50 on Spotify.
Midnights' melodies lean towards electro-pop, with the use of synthesizers, moving away from the indie-folk vein of her two previous works, Evermore and Folklore, which took home a Grammy for Best Album of the Year in 2021.
The production features a collaboration with pop diva Lana Del Rey, who appears on Snow on The Beach,
and includes actress Zoe Kravitz in the credits.
True to her style, Swift rewarded her fans by releasing Midnights on digital playback platforms with an expanded version titled 3 am Edition, which includes seven additional tracks.
The wait for the album at midnight was such that some fans in the United States, France, and the UK
were complaining that technical problems kept them from hearing songs in the first hour of the release.
