Actress and model Tilda Swinton, in addition to her role in Wes Anderson's next film, will also arrive on the big screen this summer with a leading role in the new project by Salvadoran director Julio Torres. It is Problemista, a surreal story about the U.S. immigration system and the so-called "American dream".
The film follows Alejandro, an aspiring toy designer from El Salvador struggling to make it in New York City. When Alejandro's work visa is about to expire, the young man asks an art curator named Elizabeth (Tilda Swinton) for help, who agrees to help him curate an art exhibition in exchange.
As seen in the trailer, Problemista will take us on a journey full of bittersweet moments, combining the reality of thousands of immigrants with an LGBTQ+ romance. In addition to Tilda Swinton and Julio Torres, Problemista also features performances by RZA, Greta Lee, Catalina Saaverdra, James Scully and Isabella Rossellini. It will hit theaters on August 4, at least in the United States, however, there are still no dates for the rest of the countries.
The film Problemista has already been screened at festivals such as SXSW, where it received good reviews from specialists, and currently has a 100% approval rating from 21 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. With this film, Salvadoran screenwriter Julio Torres, recognized for his work on Saturday Night Live and HBO's Los Espookys, debuts as a director starring his own script.
A24, producer of the film, has become very popular in the last year, specifically for Everything Everywhere At All Once, the film that won the Oscar for Best Picture, as its main actors won the awards in the category in which they were competing at the same Oscar ceremony.
