It seems that Keanu Reeves will return once again to star in John Wick. Lionsgate itself confirmed the information, which has the film rights to the franchise since its birth in 2014. Undoubtedly, it is an unexpected announcement after the end posed by the fourth installment released in theaters in March this year. A report from Comicbook picks up the statements that Joe Drake has said, the president of Motion Picture Group, and which were expressed during Lionsgate's Q4 2023 earnings review. "We're now moving through that franchise, not only in the AAA video game space, but also looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs is. TV is really growing that universe so there's a steady cadence of a franchise that has a clear appetite," he said.
In that regard, he noted, "Ballerina is the first spin-off coming out next year. We are in development of three others, including John Wick 5 and including the television series, The Continental, and that it will arrive soon". The other two projects were already official some time ago, and it was more than obvious that now these spinoff series would be the ones to continue this universe full of bullets.
Drake assured that they are building a world, "and when those five movies come, it will be organic, it will develop organically from how we started telling those stories." However, beyond positing a fifth installment for the film series, he doesn't delve into how they would do so from the conclusion of John Wick 4, which seemed pretty definitive for the Reeves-embodied protagonist.
There is no doubt some that the spinoff series and the fifth movie will have equal or even more popularity than the previous movies.
