SkyShowtime, Paramount's streaming platform, has only been in business for a short time, and yet it is already giving us disappointments. Paramount+ has announced in the last few hours the cancellation of four of its TV shows and series: Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe.
Possibly the most striking cancellation of all is that of Star Trek: Prodigy. The animated series premiered its first season in 2021, reaching a total of 20 episodes, and subsequently its renewal for a second season hit the news. While Star Trek: Prodigy will move forward with production of its second season, it will have to find a new network that will agree to give it the space it was denied at SkyShowtime after its first season.
Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies has suffered the same fate, and will only air one season, this time with only ten episodes. The series, which premiered a couple of months ago on SkyShowtime, was a prequel to the mythical musical Grease. Finally, Paramount+ has also cancelled The Game and Queen of the Universe: the first, a series that has already aired on several networks, and the second, a drag queen show that will not return after its second season.
The worst part is not that the Paramount+ series Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe will be cancelled after just a few seasons, but that they will be completely removed from SkyShowtime's catalog, and we will only be able to enjoy their ephemeral content again if they end up being rescued by other networks.
