Nuns with machine guns. Few things are more iconic in pop culture than a group of nuns ready to tear off heads and fight against Satan: as much as it sounds like a B series, the truth is that 'Warrior Nun' has been a resounding success on Netflix. The series has one of the biggest fansdom in the world, as in fact, one of the few that has managed to bring a series back after a cancellation.
On December 13, 2022, after two seasons on Netflix, the streaming service decided to cancel it without giving, as always, much more explanation. The fandom took to all the social networks and today, half a year later, Simon Barry, its showrunner, has announced its renewal on Twitter: “Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts - #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thank-you!!”
We have already seen more times returns of this style and until it is confirmed to be a third season on Netflix I would keep crossing my fingers: it may be a comic book adaptation (yes, different from the original product on which it is based), a novel or even an audio-drama in the style of 'Doctor Who'. But, for the moment, let's smile a little. After all, the collective effort has paid off? And we can't always say so!
The Warrior Nun series is about Ava (Alba Baptista), a young girl who unwittingly becomes a young warrior and joins the Secret Order of the Crusader Sword to fight demons and other threats to humanity. Its two seasons are available on Netflix.
