Movie theaters around the world will collapse this July 21 with one of the biggest conflicts that the world of cinema has been able to experience with the release of 'Barbenheimer' ('Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie'). And it seemed that the cinema was the real winner in all this struggle, but the drama makes its way again to fill a new chapter. Anonymous sources consulted by Insider claim that director Christopher Nolan would be upset with Warner Bros' move to schedule 'Barbie' on the same day as his film, especially since mid-July weeks are often referred to in the industry as "Nolan weekend."
In 2021 Nolan was shooting a film dealing with the creator of the atomic bomb and as 2023 release dates began to fill up, 'Oppenheimer' would hit theaters on July 21. With the exception of 'Interstellar', Nolan has a deep predilection for releasing his films in mid-July. For example, the director already released 'The Dark Knight' during this time in 2008 and 'Tenet' would hit theaters the same month had it not been for the pandemic.
For much of his career, the director has worked closely with the Warner Bros. studio. However, this relationship was over with the release of 'Tenet'. The film only hit theaters on August 26, 2020, but when parent company WarnerMedia took the step later that year to launch its catalog in 2021 on HBO Max, the director lashed out harshly against the decision.
For its part, Universal Pictures has not commented on this particular war, so all that remains is for the day of release to arrive and for viewers to enjoy these two highly acclaimed films.
