This year Apple TV+ will bring Napoleon, the new film directed by Ridley Scott that features Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and will be in theaters first before joining the streaming platform. In fact, the film focuses on the figure of Napoleon Bonaparte, from the origins of this historical figure to the end of his career, covering his entire journey to become emperor and depicting his most famous battles.
"It shows Bonaparte's relentless race to power through the prism of his addictive and volatile relationship with Josephine, his one true love, featuring his visionary political and military tactics through some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed," details the film's official description.
This preview suggests that the production will be marked by an epic tone, as well as political tensions and the particular dramas of some of the main characters. The film deals with Napoleon Bonaparte's rise through the scales of power, as well as his relationship with his wife, Empress Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.
Aside from Joaquin Phoenix (Beau is Afraid, Joker: Folie a Deux, The Brothers Sisters), Napoleon's cast features Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Deadly Sentence. Part One, The Son, Fragments of a Woman), Tahar Rahim (Madame Web, A Defiant Future), Youssef Kerkour (A Bit of Light, The Gucci House) among others. Otherwise, before Napoleon, Ridley Scott was the director of The Last Duel (2021) and House of Gucci (2021) and both productions generated mixed reviews. In addition to the above, the filmmaker will also soon present the sequel to Gladiator. It will star Paul Mescal, who will play Commodus' nephew. Napoleon will going to hit the theathers on November 22, 2023.
