The film "Talk to Me" is one of A24's bets in 2023. The studio behind projects such as "Aftersun", "The Whale", "The Florida Project" and "BEEF" is once again betting on horror with this work critically acclaimed as one of the best films of the genre. In fact, the youtube twins Danny and Michael Philippou are the filmmakers. Both were made famous thanks to its YouTube channel RackaRacka, where they presented a series of parodias repletas of action and much gore. In this way, they release their debut feature film, with performances by actors such as Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen and Joe Bird. Many of you are thinking, will it be as good as it looks? Well, you have to see it to find out.
Over the course of Talk to Me's 95 minutes of footage, we learn the story of a lonely teenage girl named Mia. She and a group of kids discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, so they become easily hooked on the new thrill. However, when the protagonist is confronted by a soul claiming to be her dead mother, things spiral out of control as terrifying supernatural forces are unleashed. The girl must then debate whether to trust the living or the dead.
The film has already received critical acclaim from the experts, and in fact, so far it maintains a score of 97% overall on the Rotten Tomatoes website. The most outstanding reviews are: David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter: "The film deftly stitches its deepest fears around the idea that pain and trauma can be open invitations to predatory forces from beyond. It's a breath of new blood in the horror landscape."
The film arrives in theaters on August 27.
