This year's Comic Con, although full of absences due to the ongoing writers' and actors' strike, gave us something fans of the 'Saw' saga have been waiting for: a first look at the tenth installment, 'Saw X', with Tobin Bell once again as the sinister John Kramer.
In the first official image from the film Kramer stares straight ahead surrounded by a shadowy blue light. The mind behind the events we've seen in cinema's goriest saga now returns in an attempt to cure his cancer through an experimental medical procedure, only to discover that the whole operation is a scam that preys on the most vulnerable. Something that, as we know, doesn't sit well with him at all. The serial killer does what he does best once again, in a plot set in the time between the events of 'Saw' and 'Saw 2'.
In fact, Kevin Greutert returns as director for the film, after having played the same role in 'Saw VI' and 'Saw 3D' and having worked on 6 other installments of the franchise. The screenplay is by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. The cast of 'Saw X', in addition to Bell, includes Steven Brand, Synnove Macody Lund, Michael Beach, Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernandez, Octavio Hinojosa and Joshua Okamoto.
Breaking with the trend that is spreading among some studios and directors, who are considering delaying the release of their upcoming films in the face of a strike that makes promotional events impossible, Lionsgate has moved up the release of 'Saw X' from October 27 to September 29. In addition, the tenth installment of the saga is preceded by the release of 'The Nun 2' on September 8, followed by the reboot of 'The Exorcist'.
