Invincible, one of the most acclaimed animated series of recent years, could make the leap to the big screen. However, it would leave aside the animated format in favor of a live-action movie. Although there is still no confirmation in this regard, we recently learned that Universal Pictures is interested in making it a reality.
During Comic-Con 2023, Robert Kirkman, creator of the Invincible comics along with cartoonist Cory Walker, confirmed that Universal Pictures wants to make a live-action movie (via Screen Rant). However, at the moment their plans are at a standstill. Evidently, because of the actors and screenwriters strike. "With the strikes it's all stalled, and rightly so. Everyone is going to great lengths to make sure that future generations can work, thrive and survive in this industry. Everything was put on hold, but it's something [the Invincible live-action movie] that I know Universal is very interested in, and we were working on it behind the scenes up until this point. Hopefully, I'll be able to answer that question in a more responsible way at some point in the future."
The strike of both unions has caused all the film companies to stop, at least, the productions they had underway. There are even more curious cases such as Barbie and Oppenheimer, which despite being about to premiere when the strike began, had to stop their advertising campaigns with the performers. Thus, the Invincible live-action film will not be greenlit until the conflict with the unions is resolved. However, it is clear that Universal is just waiting for the right moment to move forward with its purpose. There is no doubt that Invincible has the story and characters to make it in the movies. We'll have to see if Universal intends to get it right.
