Blue Beetle received mixed to positive reviews in recent days, however, the enthusiasm of the press and the good faith of some fans has not been enough to lift its box office numbers. The problem is so severe that the film is already seen as a flop by Warner Bros. Discovery and will hit streaming well ahead of the general guidelines for these cases.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto and starring Xolo Maridueña, Blue Beetle presents us with the story of young Jaime Reyes, an American teenager of Mexican descent who gains powers thanks to an incredible suit granted by a mysterious blue beetle. Our protagonist will have to learn to use his new abilities, while facing a great danger that will require all his commitment and courage. Being honest, Blue Beetle didn't have a decent marketing campaign, plus the actors' strike made him miss the opportunity of a press tour with the whole cast. Angel Manuel took the mission to offer the interviews alone, supporting and defending his film in the best way; unfortunately, the box office the box office did not meet expectations.
In fact, it seems that James Gunn's work with the new DC universe is not going as well as his latest joint venture with Marvel 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol III'. In addition, according to Box Office Mojo, Blue Beetle has only grossed US $50 million globally, a shockingly low box office, forcing Warner to move up its digital release date. MaxBlizz reports that the film will hit Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play Movies & TV on September 19; DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K UHD versions will arrive in October.
