In the face of a long absence, the possibility of replacing your partner with a biomechanical replica. The plot of Foe could have been one of the episodes of the Black Mirror series, but it is based on a novel written by Lain Reid and adapted into a feature film by Australian director Garth Davis (Lion). And one of its strong points will undoubtedly be its leading couple, Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, one of the actors in fashion after his Oscar nomination for Aftersun and the lead actor of the upcoming film Gladiator 2 by Ridley Scott.
The proposal is science fiction, but mainly focuses on its aspect of intimate marital drama. Specifically, the action takes place in the year 2065, with the planet Earth suffering the harsh consequences of climate change. Hen (Ronan) and Junior (Mescal), is a couple living on a farm away from civilization. However, their life will change radically when a stranger comes to their home and tells them that Junior is one the many who will travel to a space station for two years. "This movie really says to us 'wake up. Your life is precious, and if you take it for granted, you'll lose it,'" Garth Davis assessed of the subject matter he had most enjoyed in Reid's novel.
There is already talk that the film will be one of the most nominated in the following awards, especially for its cast. Foe is scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on October 6, although other territories will arrive directly through Prime Video (Amazon Studios has been part of the production), on a date yet to be determined.
