Based on the book of the same name by journalist David Grann, the story takes place in 1920s Oklahoma and deals with a series of brutal murders involving members of the Osage Nation, an indigenous community rich in oil resources. These crimes, which became known as the Reign of Terror, shook the community and highlighted the racial and economic tensions of the time. The film's main art portrays Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), a couple living an unlikely romance amidst a backdrop of uncertainty and betrayal.
