Boy meets girl. They fall in love. The rest is history. Many romantic cinematic works revolve around this basic proposition for any love story. In fact, the Netflix film 'Love At First Sight' takes the same starting point, but seeks, in turn, to tell its story in mathematical terms, with a touch of fate personified (Jameela Jamil, star of The Good Place, serves as narrator). Hadley (Haley Lu Richardson) and Oliver (Ben Hardy) meet in the most clichéd of ways: they cross paths in a New York airport while waiting for their flight to the UK. The chemistry between the two is immediate.
However, later on, something happens that is also rather trite in romance comedies: they lose track of each other when they pass through customs. If this were real life, two people from different countries who never exchanged numbers would never see each other again. But here, fantasy and the promise of a happy ending are on the protagonists' side.
The feature film is based on the novel of the same name by American writer Jennifer E. Smith. In this case, we are introduced to Hadley, a character that Richardson builds with an awkward personality. On the other hand, her co-star does the same with Oliver, who we get to delve deeper into on a personal level since the plot is mostly set in his native country. The cast is complemented by other faces such as Jameela Jamil, Rob Delaney, Dexter Fletcher and Sally Phillips.
Without a doubt, 'Love at First Sight' is one of the best romantic movies of the year. Is now streaming on Netflix.
