It's been a little over a month since The Boy and the Heron was released in Japan. In the home country of its director, Hayao Miyazaki, the film received almost no publicity, but things will not be like that in the rest of the world. Through a very discreet teaser, GKids Films, the distributor in charge of its exhibition in Canada and the United States, has begun to promote its release. The vidideo reveals the synopsis of The Boy and the Heron as well as displaying the Studio Ghibli logo.
The film is the story of a boy which name is Mahito, who searches for his deceased mother in a land where the living and the dead meet. The story is an animated adaptation of the novel How do you live? by Genzaburo Yoshino. The production company decided not to make a trailer for the Japanese release in mid-July. Despite this, the film had an excellent box office and soon found distribution in Western markets. Its premiere here will take place in the following weeks as part of the program of this year's Toronto Film Festival.
Although the teaser is effectively empty of footage, images of the animation have been circulating on the internet for a few weeks now thanks to the release of the film's art book. In the images, the same drawing style for which Studio Ghibli has always stood out and which symbolizes it so much and specifically Miyazaki. So surely the visual aspect will be to the liking of fans of this production company.
Without a doubt, The Boy and The Heron is already one of the most anticipated animated feature films of the year.
