Tomb Raider will have its own animated series on Netflix. The streaming platform has just presented Tomb Raider, a title that will arrive in 2024 and will expand the well-known franchise that is now in the hands of Amazon. In fact, this project was announced in 2021 by Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Castlevania, which has collaborated with Netflix itself, Crystal Dynamics and Legendary Television.
Square Enix, who owned the Tomb Raider license until last year, announced in the past that The Legend of Lara Croft will resume the events of the reboot trilogy started in 2013, which after Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider with a story that will be a new chapter starring the globetrotting heroine 25 years after she appeared in her first game.
Tomb Raider at the hands of Netflix will continue to explore new territories in a series that will star Hayley Atwell (Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Lara Croft, Allen Maldonado (Heels, The Wonder Years) as Zip. and Earl Baylon will reprise his role of Jonah Maiava, as he did in the games.
As for the trailer, it begins by showing Lara fitting an arrow to her bow, before showing her jumping into a cavern, discovering treasure, emerging from the flames of the rubble and facing some kind of mystical energy. Next, the trailer shows Lara dusting off an old photo of her with the crew of the Endurance, including Jonah, Roth, Sam and Reyes. This seems to imply that the events of the anime take place after the 2013 reboot, although the trailer doesn't make it clear how long after.
There is still no release date for the animated series, but it could arrive in 2024 or 2025.
