Sony Pictures' upcoming romantic comedy Anyone But You is getting more and more ready to hit the big screen. The film, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, is a modern story loosely based on William Shakespeare's play, Much Ado About Nothing. Directed by Will Gluck, will have its theatrical release in December of this year, a decision by the studio that underscores its confidence in the title's commercial potential. Set primarily in Australia, the film centers on Bea and Ben, played by Sweeney and Powell respectively, who reunite years after college at a destination wedding in Australia. There, the two get back to their respective exes, so they decide to pretend to be a couple, a highly awkward situation that eventually leads to them falling genuinely in love.
The announcement of the project and images from the set captured by paparazzi have created a buzz of anticipation around the on-screen chemistry between Sydney and Glen. Both stars unveiled the first footage at CinemaCon, where they shared details in a series of interviews and on-stage appearances. Despite rumors and speculation about a possible relationship between them, the artists have denied that there is anything more than a friendship between the two.
Anyone But You also features a strong and diverse cast, including Dermot Mulroney, Alexandra Shipp, Rachel Griffiths and Michele Hurd. Others actores part of the film are GaTa, Bryan Brown, Darren Barnet, Hadley Robinson and Joe Davidson. The film was written by Ilana Wolpert and the director himself.
Anyone But You will hit theaters on December 22nd. In the meantime, you can see Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell in other productions such as Euphoria and Top Gun: Maverick, available on streaming.
