When a director publicly acknowledges what his next film will be, when it will star filming and who will be in the cast, it's about as official as it gets. And so, although Netflix has yet to make any announcements, at a screening this week, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro spilled all that information and more about 'Frankenstein'. Del Toro has been talking about Frankenstein for years but it wasn't until recently that it seemed increasingly likely he'd make it. Early rumors said that the incredible cast of Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth were in early talks and Del Toro has just confirmed all of that as well as the addition of Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.
"I'm doing frankenstein," Del Toro said at a Pacific Rim Collider Screening. "We're working on it. We start shooting in February and it's a movie I've wanted to make for 50 years. ever since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it's basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn't I did it 10 years ago. Now I'm brave enough or crazy enough or something and we're going to tackle it. It's Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield, Christoph Waltz, Mia Goth and we're working on it."
We still don't know if the film will be set in the past or in the present. What we do know for sure is that this adaptation will be available on Netflix, thanks to the collaboration between the Mexican director and the streaming platform. This collaboration includes productions such as 'Pinocchio' and 'Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities'.
