Zombies and romance are the main ingredients in the film Lisa Frankenstein, where the story of the reanimated dead (a plot familiar from Mary Shelley's literary work) takes on a bold youthful look. After announcing its release date for February 9, 2024, the production directed by Zelda Williams presented two unpublished images with the main characters played by Kathryn Newton (The Society) and Cole Sprouse (Riverdale).
Zelda, daughter of popular comedian and actor Robin Williams, had already made short films, but this project marks her official debut in feature films. In her social networks, the actress had described this fiction as "the craziest and most wonderful zombie script" she had ever read, and was excited to give her personal touch to the premise.
Lisa Frankenstein follows a misunderstood teenager (Newton), and in love with a handsome young man who is actually a Victorian corpse (Sprouse). The plot takes place in 1989 and follows the duo as they embark on a quest to find love, happiness and some missing body parts after a series of horrific circumstances bring the boy back to life. In addition to the starring duo, the others actores are Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest and Carla Gugino.
The screenplay is written by Diablo Cody, Oscar winner for Juno, and she also serves as producer with Mason Novick. The duo has previously collaborated on such films as Tully, Young Adult and Diabolical Temptation. Also, Jeffrey Lampert rounds out the production team as executive producer.
In fact, Lisa Frankenstein theatrical release will coincide with the Valentine's Day season as an unusual romance option on the billboard.
