The film 'Leave the World Behind' promises to be one of Netflix's biggest releases in late 2023. Not only because it brings together stars such as Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke in the cast, but also because it tells a chilling story based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam. The feature film is written, directed and produced by Sam Esmail, famous for being the creator of the series "Mr. Robot" and the director behind the film "Comet" (2014).
The cast also includes Myha'la Herrold, Farrah Mackenzie and Kevin Bacon. It is also know that the filming took place on Long Island, in a house designed by The Up Studio.
'Leave the World Behind' tells the story of Amanda (Roberts), her husband Clay (Hawke) and their children (Charlie Evans and Farrah Mackenzie). They are enjoying a weekend vacation in a rented house, until two strangers disturb their tranquility. It turns out that G.H. (Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Herrold) bring news of a mysterious cyberattack and seek refuge in the property they claim is theirs. Then, according to the official synopsis, "both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis while grappling with their own place in this crumbling world."
Sam Esmail's film premieres on Netflix on Friday, December 8, 2023. As usual on the platform, the production will arrive via streaming from the early hours of that day. In fact, The Book of Rumaan Alam, on which the film is based, was a finalist for the 2020 National Book Award for Fiction. It was also part of the list of best novels of 2020 by Literary Hub.
