Coinciding with the Halloween season, HBO Max revealed that The Nun II will be in its catalog on October 27. The film, part of The Conjuring universe, premiered in theaters on September 8. Its transition to the digital platform will take place just 50 days later, while it is still in theaters.
Directed by Michael Chaves, known for his past works within the horror franchise, the title has so far accumulated $84 million at the U.S. box office and a total of $258 million worldwide. Although it still looks far from the $365 million that the first film grossed, the numbers are remarkable considering its budget, which is less than $40 million. This fact positions it as the fifth most successful film in the saga, according to Box Office Mojo.
The plot takes place four years after the first installment. Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) has moved to Italy with the intention of leading a serene life in a convent. However, the sinister Valak (once again played by Bonnie Aarons) is still on her trail. The action takes us to France in 1956, where the murder of a clergyman has generated more questions than solutions, triggering a new confrontation, both physical and spiritual, between the young nun and the demonic entity, the protagonists of the story.
It was produced by Peter Safran's Safran Company and James Wan's Atomic Monster, who also collaborated on the eight feature films that make up the franchise, which have accumulated a total of 2.2 billion dollars, making it the most profitable in its genre.
'The Nun II' will be available to stream on Max on October 27.
