A surprise look at Disney's next big bet. The company, which turned 100 years old this 2023, is preparing a live-action version of the classic tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a story that became the first animated feature film in 1937. Starring Rachel Zegler, the live-action project titled Disney's Snow White is one of the studio's biggest challenges. On October 27, a photograph revealed the look of the American actress in her character's signature dress. The image also gave a glimpse of the dwarves' appearance in the middle of a rustic cabin.
Disney also announced a change in the release schedule of the feature film. While this title was to be released on March 22, 2024, it will now be postponed for a year until March 21, 2025. The delay is official and is because of the actors' strike in Hollywood, a protest measure that has lasted more than 100 days. The work stoppage is in response to the SAG-AFTRA union's demand for better working conditions, including protection of their image against unauthorized use of AI. Negotiations with the major film studios continue.
Snow White is one of the most popular children's fairy tale princesses in the world, so the production team faces high audience expectations. The weight also falls on the cast, especially the two strongest female characters in the story. In addition to Zegler, the film will feature Gal Gadot in the role of the Evil Queen.
On the other hand, the direction is in charge of Marc Webb, while the musical part will have the participation of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The duo, who worked on The Greatest Showman, will write new songs for the live-action.
