Abbot Elementary, the sitcom that follows the lives of a group of schoolteachers, now has a return date for television. ABC announced that the third season of its acclaimed show will premiere on February 7, 2024. Other productions, such as season 20 of Grey's Anatomy and season 7 of The Good Doctor, are also part of schedule for the first half of next year.
Created by and starring Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary stood out for its clever humor and unique approach. The fiction, set in an underfunded public school in Philadelphia, features a group of dedicated teachers and their efforts to provide a quality education to their students despite constant challenges. The second season concluded in April 2023 and left the characters at pivotal points in their stories.
The third season became official in January of this year; however, there was a delay in the preparation of the next chapters due to the impact of the WGA and SAG AFTRA union strikes. Negotiations by the screenwriters to obtain better labor benefits in contracts with the major studios were successful and an agreement was reached in September.
Abbott Elementary is not only a product with good ratings (season 2 was more successfull), but it also has several awards for its fresh approach with an eye on educational and social issues. The team has several nominations for several awards, including Critics Choice, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, NAACP Image Awards, Writers Guild, and others. It was also a finalist for seven Primetime Emmy Awards, with three wins, including Best Casting, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress (Sheryl Lee Ralph) in a Comedy Series.
