Disney and Pixar have announced the release of their new film, Inside Out 2, set to hit theaters in June 2024. The sequel to the acclaimed 2015 original film will pick up the story of Riley, who is now a teenager after turning 13, and will feature a significant shift in her inner world with the introduction of the first of four never-before-seen emotions: Anxiety. Inside Out 2 from Disney and Pixar, flashes back to the mind of Riley, a teenage newcomer, just as headquarters is suddenly being demolished to make room for something totally unexpected: new emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who have long run a successful operation by all accounts, aren't sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it seems she's not alone," warns the official synopsis.
Director Kelsey Mann has revealed details about this groundbreaking character to which Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) lends her voice. According to Mann, Anxiety, despite being a new member of the emotion team, will play a prominent and disruptive role in the group's dynamics. This addition promises to add another complex dimension to the plot and explore deeper aspects of the adolescent psyche.
"Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, may be new to the team, but she's not one to take a back seat," Mann explains. "That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what's going on inside all of our minds." The Inside Out 2 cast includes Amy Poehler reprising her role as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale as Fear and Liza Lapira as Disgust (the latter two replaced Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling in the respective roles).
