Known for his iconic film, Halloween, Carpenter will leave the director's chair to immerse himself in the creation of the soundtrack for Death of a Unicorn, a project in which he will merge his musical genius with that of his son, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies. The plot of Death of a Unicorn revolves around an unexpected and dark event, where a father and daughter accidentally collide with a unicorn on their way to a weekend retreat. The film will also follow the father's billionaire boss, who seeks to exploit the creature's healing properties.
Ari Aster, acclaimed for his work on Hereditary (2018) and Midsommar (2019), joins as executive producer, bringing his distinctive stamp of quality to the project. Alex Scharfman's direction in his directorial debut, along with his screenplay, mold a film categorized as an intriguing "black comedy." The film's cast is notable, featuring Jenna Ortega (known for Wednesday) and Paul Rudd (recognized for Ant-Man) in the lead roles. Recently, the addition of Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), Richard E. Grant (Loki), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), Sunita Mani (Glow), Jessica Hynes (Shaun of the Dead), and Stephen Park (Asteroid City) was announced.
Filming on Death of a Unicorn wrapped during the summer and the film is currently in post-production. Although there is no official release date, the first images should be out in the next few weeks.
