With films such as Get Out (2017), Us (2019) and more recently, Nope! (2022), Jordan Peele has managed to establish himself as one of the great promises within the horror genre standing out not only as a director, but also as a screenwriter, a role for which he received an Oscar in 2018.
According to a recent report published by Deadline, through his company Monkeypaw Productions, the filmmaker will helm the remake with a script by Ezra Claytan Daniels (Doom Patrol). The media indicates that the project is still in the early stages of development, which is why details are still scarce.
The original The People Behind the Walls was written, directed and produced by Wes Craven, the filmmaker of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and Scream (1996). The story followed a young man who breaks into a house and finds a gruesome scenario: incestuous brothers have mutilated several boys and held them prisoner under the stairs of their large and creepy house. Although the film exceeded expectations at the box office, it received mixed reviews from critics, mainly because it is a dark fable about middle-class America. In 2018, Peele received four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, for Get Out! He ultimately took home an award for Best Original Screenplay. To date, his three films have grossed nearly $683 million in their theatrical run.
In addition to the remake of The People Behind the Walls, his production company has two films slated for 2024: an untitled horror thriller on September 27 and a fourth feature film in which Peele will serve as director
