A mix of murder, combat and chases are the hallmark of the acclaimed John Wick cinematic universe, which first debuted in 2014 starring Keanu Reeves. Following the success of its four films and a prequel, director Chad Stahelski confirmed in an interview with Collider that the franchise continues to expand, and a new TV series is in development.
Although he didn't reveal plot details, Stahelski expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming spin-off, and even hinted at the possibility of directing some episodes. "I think I'd have fun trying things we couldn't do in the feature films. Absolutely. There are some great ideas. And working with a different cast and a plot structure without John Wick, it would be a fun challenge," he stated. This would not be the first incursion into the small screen, since this year The Continental is now streaming, a production that narrates the rise to power of Winston Scott, owner of the emblematic New York hotel of the same name. However, its reception was not as expected, since despite its popularity, critics gave it a score of 63% on Rotten Tomatoes.
On the other hand, 2024 will see the release of the new film Ballerina, a spin-off headed by Ana de Armas. The title, which is expected to be released in the middle of the year, will focus on one of the assassins of The Director's crime family, played by Anjelica Huston. About the film, the filmmaker stated for THR: "The character is different, and there will also be a different take on the action scenes to insert freshness [to the saga]."
