Netflix has revealed the first images and official trailer for its upcoming series, Dead Boy Detectives, an adaptation of the DC Comics character duo created by Neil Gaiman. Developed by Steve Yockey, known for his work on Supernatural, the eight-episode series is shaping up to be a spin-off of Sandman, a production also based on a work by the same author.
The plot centers on Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, played by George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri respectively, two young men who, after refusing passage to the afterlife, devote themselves to investigating supernatural crimes on Earth. "They will do anything to stick together, including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death itself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to solve some of the most baffling paranormal cases in the mortal realm," states the official description.
During the Geeked Week 2023 it was presented the production. Edwin is "the brains" of the duo, while Charles brings "the brawn." The clip also highlights some of the cases they will investigate, including strange apparitions and a werewolf, all while trying to avoid meeting Death. Initially, the series was in development at HBO Max as part of the Doom Patrol universe. However, the project is now part of the red "N" for reasons not entirely clear.
In fact, Steve Yockey develop the series with Beth Schwartz as co-showrunner. Executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jeremy Carver, Leigh London Redman and Gaiman himself. Lee Toland Krieger directed and produced the first episode. There's not official release date for Dead Boy Detectives, so for now you can stream Sandman via Netflix.
