Conquering a king's bed to secure a place at the English court. Such is the intense tale of intrigue starring the Countess of Buckingham, her son and the monarch James I of England that will be portrayed in Mary & George, a series that could be considered the most controversial of 2024. Its official teaser gives a first glimpse of the plot of ambition and homoeroticism starring Nicholas Galitzine set in 17th century England.
In fact, the seven-part production follows the story of Mary Villiers (Julianne Moore) and her son George (Galitzine), who travel a path of manipulation and murder in the pursuit of power at the court of King James I. In the clip, the introduction of Countess Villiers in a scene laden with menace foreshadows the complexity of Moore's character, and the disturbing relationship she sustains with her offspring. George, under the tutelage of his mother, will enter the dangerous waters of court politics and take advantage of the homosexual orientation of the monarch, who will make him his lover.
In addition, the Oscar winner for Always Alice, faces the challenge of bringing to life a woman who "mastered the art of sexual and political conquests." Also, Galitzine returns to find herself with a character linked to royalty and on the LGBTQ+ spectrum after the titles Handsome Devil and Red, White and Royal Blue.
The cast is diversified with talents such as Tony Curran (The Flash), who will be under the crown of James I, and Laurie Davidson in the role of Robert Carr, one of the king's favorite lovers. Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins and Mark O'Halloran, among others, complete this panorama of historical figures in the drama of seduction, violence and deception.
