Featuring a more mature version of the iconic animated series, the trailer for Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is now available, announcing its arrival on the platform on February 22, 2024. The original production, released in 2005, focused on the epic of Aang, a young Avatar with the ability to manipulate the four basic elements: water, earth, fire and air. His goal was to preserve harmony in a world segmented into nations by challenging the tyranny of the Fire Nation.
This new interpretation, with Gordon Cormier as Aang and Daniel Dae Kim as the antagonistic Fire Lord Ozai, promises to deepen the narrative without losing its critically acclaimed essence. The story begins with the discovery of the main character, who is rescued by the duo Katara (Kiawentiio Tarbell) and Sokka (Ian Ousley), after being frozen for a hundred years in an iceberg.
Albert Kim leads the project as showrunner, with Rideback's Jabbar Raisani, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore, and Michael Goi in executive producing roles. Raisani and Goi are directing the series alongside Roseanne Liang and Jet Wilkinson. Although it is still too early to talk about a second season, the available material offers ample possibilities for future adventures.
In addition to this streaming project, the franchise created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino will bring new films in 2025.
Avatar: The Legend of Aang will debut on the streaming site on February 22, 2024. While the day of the premiere date arrives, the three seasons of the original series are all available on Netflix's streaming service.
