The live action adaptation of Minecraft continues to expand its cast with a Wednesday star from Netflix as its latest addition. A new report from Deadline advances that Emma Myers known for playing Enid Sinclair, Jenna Ortega's partner in fiction closed a deal with Warner Bros. and Legendary to star in the movie inspired by the best-selling video game of all time.
Myers joins a cast that already had Jason Momoa confirmed as one of its leads. According to a previous report, Peacemaker actress Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen are also part of the cast. While the Minecraft movie continues to assemble a bespoke cast, for the time being the details of its plot and focus remain a big mystery to the public. The good news is that the project is moving steadily forward and already has a tentative shooting date. In fact, the film should begin production in New Zealand in late December under the direction of Jared Hess, known for being behind the cult comedies Napoleon Dynamite (2004) and Nacho Libre (2006).
It should be recalled that the development of a Minecraft movie has been in the works since 2014 and has gone through several screenwriters and directors, including Shawn Levy of Stranger Things and Rob McElhenney creator of the sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but none of it could come to fruition. The inspiration that the film is now taking shape more quickly is due to the numerous projects in Hollywood that adapt famous video games. Among the best known and box-office hits right now are: The Last of Us, Super Mario Bros: The Movie and Five Night's at Freddy's.
Minecraft does not yet have a definite release window.
