Apple TV+ has unveiled the first images from its new series, Palm Royale, scheduled to premiere in March of next year. In fact, the comedy-drama, set in the tumultuous year of 1969, features a high-caliber cast led by Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Laura Dern (Big Little Lies) and Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin (American Crime Story: Versace), along with Allison Janney (I Am Tonya), Josh Lucas (Yellowstone), Leslie Bibb (Nobodies), Amber Chardae Robinson (Loot), Mindy Cohn (The Facts of Life), Julia Duffy (Newhart) and Kaia Gerber (Bottoms), among others. The plot revolves around Maxine Simmons (Wiig), who strives to fit in with Palm Beach high society. Also, the production explores themes of social class and aspiration, questioning the extent to which a person is willing to change to achieve what others have.
Based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, the title is a project of the Apple Studios label. In fact, Abe Sylvia, known for his work on The Eyes of Tammy Faye, produce and direct the series. Sylvia shares directing duties with Tate Taylor, Claire Scanlon and Stephanie Laing. In addition to the main cast, Palm Royale features guest stars Bruce Dern and Carol Burnett, adding a touch of legend to the story. With an initial three-episode release, it will be unveiled in weekly episodes through May 8.
