Pennywise, the iconic shape-shifting clown will return to haunt nightmares with Welcome to Derry, the IT prequel series that will chronicle the years leading up to the bizarre creature's defeat at the hands of the Losers' Club. In a trailer for the 2024 and 2025 premieres, HBO Max has shared a brief glimpse of this horror show that will be coming soon to its platform. The Welcome to Derry trailer reveals just a couple of shots of a group of kids on bicycles riding through town. Then we see another being dragged into a river from a boat by a terrifying hand. Finally, a man observes a red balloon stuck in the branches of a tree. The show is currently in production and has at least a couple more in development.
The series will see the return of Andy Muschietti as director, he was in charge of the two films of 2017 and 2019. In charge of the librettos we will have Jason Fuchs, who will also be one of the showrunners. Many official details about the plot are still missing, but it will narrate another chronological moment of the city and IT, the shape-shifting creature that stalks it and devours its children.
Although it might not seem so, those who have read Stephen King's novel will know that there are many details about Derry's history that did not make it into the most recent films. The book even suggests that the origin of That is extraterrestrial and that it arrived with a meteorite and has over the years eventually merged with the city itself, which faces a cataclysm when the protagonists finally defeat the entity.
