During 2023, several videogame-inspired properties have made their way to film and television, proving that, in the right hands, adaptations can become profitable and quality products. While HBO has already secured a few seasons in the future with The Last of Us, Prime Video not only has a Fallout series on the way, but also a God of War live action project.
The video game series began in 2005 with the god Kratos as the central figure. After being tricked by Ares the titular anti-hero must face hordes of Olympian gods as he tries to carry out his revenge. God of War skillfully blended Greek and Norse mythology, becoming greater and more epic with each installment.
Although for several years the possibility of adapting the property had been on the table, it wasn't until 2022 that the project had the green light thanks to an agreement between Amazon and Sony. We now know that the director of the series will be Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time), while Mark Fergus (Iron Man) and Hawk Ostby (The Expanse) will write and produce the story. In addition, the director of the God of War video game, Cory Barlog, will also serve as executive producer, ensuring that the series will be faithful to the original material.
As for the cast, no one knows who will play Kratos, but among the first options would be Dwayne Johnson and Jasom Momoa.
Considering that the project is in development, there is still no release or shooting window. However, Prime Video already has an official date for Fallout fans as the video game adaptation will premiere on the platform on April 12, 2024.
