Human beings know that the end of time will inevitably come one day. But… what if that were to happen today? That's the starting point of Netflix's upcoming apocalyptic thriller, Leave The World Behind, starring Ethan Hawke and Oscar winner Julia Roberts. A movie that the platform's subscribers are eagerly awaiting and that, in fact, already has its final trailer available.
In the final trailer, Amanda and Clay Sandford (played by Roberts and Hawke, respectively) head to an Airbnb with their family for the weekend. However, the seemingly idyllic plan away from the hustle and bustle of the city is disrupted when two strangers show up at the door, claiming that an apocalypse is looming on the horizon. With no Internet or cell phone signal, the family has no choice but to trust their instincts in the face of an unimaginable situation. The film is undoubtedly one of Netflix's biggest bets to close the year, as just the fact that the cast is led by Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts, attracts a lot of attention from fans.
Directed by Sam Esmail, creator of the acclaimed Mr. Robot series, Leaving the World Behind features an all-star cast, including not only Roberts and Hawke, but also Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Myha'la Herrold (Bodies Bodies Bodies Bodies) and Kevin Bacon (Footloose).
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Rumaan Alam and Barack and Michelle Obama, who recommended the original book and oversaw the writing of the screenplay, are the executive producers. After a brief theatrical run in select theaters last November, Leave the World Behind will be be available worldwide via Netflix on Friday, December 8.
