The orphan begins to pack her bags in search of a new home. More than a decade and a half after the release of the first film that featured Vera Farmiga and Isabelle Fuhrman in the leading roles, director William Brent Bell, responsible for the prequel released in 2022, assures that a third installment of the saga is on the way. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter the filmmaker behind Orphan: First Kill announced that he was actively working on the development of a new chapter of what we can already call a new "horror saga". "We're developing a third part. The rule book of the franchise opened to the point where anything is possible," Bell said in the interview referring to the previous film. "Knowing where we stand with the process, I'm extremely excited about the twists we have in store," he added.
William Brent Bell took over from Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed The Orphan in 2009. The first film was loosely based on the disturbing true story of Natalia Grace, an adult woman who suffered from a strange hormonal disorder that stunted her physical growth and pretended to be a 9-year-old girl. Bell's film received mixed reviews, but proved to be a box office success, grossing more than $37 million worldwide. Moreover, to this day, it is a film that is still as alive as it was on its first day due to the fact that it has one of the best plot twists in the history of cinema.
The new film in The Orphan universe does not yet have a tentative release date. However, The Orphan and The Orphan: The Origin are available on HBO Max and Prime Video, respectively.
