Saltburn, the new film by director Emerald Fennell, starring Barry Keoghan and Jacob Elordi, is now on Prime Video on December 22. After its screening at some film festivals and subsequent limited release in the United States and the United Kingdom, the feature film generated a discussion on social networks due to its nudity and sex scenes, which many users have defined as "uncomfortable". In fact, in response to this, Fennell herself recently spoke out on the subject and gave a controversial response. The film portrays the story of Oliver, a student at Oxford University, and his relationship with Felix, an attractive young member of the aristocracy. Over the course of the summer, the pair will live through a series of life-changing experiences at Felix's family mansion. After playing in theaters in the United States and the United Kingdom, the film generated different reactions from audiences.
"I'm not at all interested in making people comfortable. I'd like to show a feeling," Fennell said for Backstage. "It's not about being provocative; it's about digging into why certain things make us uncomfortable," added the Best Original Screenplay Oscar-winning director and actress for Promising Young Woman in 2021. "People don't like certain moments. A lot of times, when you probe it, it's because they're excited," she added.
In another interview for Variety, the director also made clear her primary motivation for making the project. "Some people scream, some people complain, some get excited, some get scared, some get angry. Some don't care. What you want is for people to go out on the street, want to have a drink and talk about it," she also said.
Saltburn is now streaming on Prime Video, so you can enjoy it anytime.
