After spending six months on a lonely research mission in the solar system, a space traveler longs to return to Earth with his wife. However, the only thing that seems to be waiting for him upon his arrival is divorce papers. Desperate, he turns to the only thing that can help him: a mysterious creature hiding in the bowels of his ship. Adam Sandler stars in this new sci-fi film titled Spaceman, which is based on the Czech novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař and Netflix is behind its production.
Directed by Johan Renck (Chernobyl), the film's recent first teaser shows Sandler in the middle of a virgin jungle located somewhere in the universe. "Like you, I fled my planet. Through galaxies, through black holes, through time. But then I found you," a mysterious voice says. The cast features such standouts as BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan as the wife, Lenka; Golden Globe nominee Paul Dano (The Fabelmans) as the voice of the creature Hanuš; Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory) as Petr, Jakub's mission engineer; and Isabella Rossellini playing the protagonist's grandmother. The cast also includes Petr Papánek and John Flanders. In addition, Channing Tatum and partner Reid Carolin are behind the production, along with Peter Kiernan, Michael Parets, Tim Headington, Lia Buman and Max Silva.
In fact, this feature film marks the continuation of the actor's collaboration with the streaming platform, which began in 2020 as part of a four-project deal. Although his career has focused on comedy and its sub-genres, his recent dramatic projects such as Hustle, Uncut Gems and You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, received wide critical acclaim thanks to his experimentation in more emotional facets for the audience.
Spaceman hits Netflix on March 1.
