A decade and six seasons later, Peaky Blinders fans still aren't ready for the story to close for good. After Netflix released its final installment in 2022, the hit series starring Cillian Murphy has become embroiled in rumors of a possible sequel movie with the actor once again giving life to Thomas Shelby, the violent head of a crime family. Among those fans awaiting his return is Margot Robbie, an actress who did not hesitate to ask him about the project during her appearance on Variety's Actors on Actors program.
"I'm open to the idea. I've always thought that if there are more stories to tell [I would]," he replied serenely, adding, "But I also think it was a perfect six installments. Sometimes it's hard to move to the film format, and I like the ambiguity of the last few episodes. Still, I'll always be open to great scripts." "Please do it - please!" euphorically urged Robbie, expressing her eagerness to see more of the character. On the other hand, the creator of the TV show, Steven Knight, revealed in 2021 that he was almost finished with the script for the film and that production was scheduled to begin in 2023 in Birmingham, England; a historic location associated with the real Peaky Blinders. However, since then there have been no significant updates.
Knight, is currently working as lead screenwriter on the next Star Wars film about Rey, but in 2022 he suggested the possibility of the red "N" fiction continuing beyond a possible feature film with different actors exploring new plots in the 1950s, and thus passing the baton of writing and creation to others.
