Renowned filmmaker Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel), famous for his distinctive use of color and symmetry on screen, is gearing up for his return to directing with a new film set to begin production later this year. Although plot details are still under wraps, it is now official that the story will focus on three main characters, with the father-daughter relationship as a central element. This announcement, made through Deadline, confirms that Roman Coppola, Anderson's longtime collaborator and screenwriter of Moonrise Kingdom (2012), will be in charge of writing the script.
In this project, Wes Anderson once again collaborates with acclaimed actor Bill Murray (Ghostbusters), who has appeared in several of the director's films since Rushmore (1998). Murray was also part of Anderson's recent work, The French Dispatch (2021). Alongside of him will be Benicio del Toro, who will once again work with the filmmaker in a key role in the plot. In addition, Michael Cera (Superbad) also joins the main cast.
Anderson's hallmark is his ability to create great dynamics in large casts, and while details of the rest of the cast are being kept under wraps, it is expected that, in keeping with the director's tradition, more names will be announced in the coming weeks.
While we await more details on this exciting project, it is worth noting that Anderson released the film Asteroid City in 2023, telling the story of parents and students gathered for a school contest dedicated to the observation of astronomical phenomena.
Undoubtedly, the film will have great recognition only for its unique cast and undoubtedly, its director. However, it seems that we still have a long way to go before we know more about the production.
