The steady stream of remakes in Hollywood adds a new chapter with the announcement that comedian and actor Chris Rock will direct the U.S. version of the hit 2020 Danish comedy-drama Another Round.
The original film, Another Round, was a standout upon its release and took home the award for Best International Film at the 93rd Oscar Awards. The plot follows Martin, who discovers a peculiar philosophical theory: humans should be born with a small amount of alcohol in their blood. This modest state of inebriation, according to the premise, would open minds, lessen problems and increase creativity. As a result, four professors at a prestigious institute embark on an experiment to prove that they can improve in all aspects of life by keeping the rate of alcohol in their bodies constant.
Although everyone knows Chris Rock for his acting, he has demonstrated his skills as a director and screenwriter in films such as Head of State, I Think I Love My Wife and Top Five. With this track record, Rock is should deftly handle the comedic elements in the remake of Another Round.
The film's script, initially written by Stuart Bloomberg (The Girl Next Door), has already gone through a first draft. However, with the addition of Chris Rock as director, a new writer is should come in to refine the story. In addition, a big name has been added to the production, as Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) will executive produce through Appian Way Productions, the production company behind Killers of the Flower Moon.
Despite the revelation of the principals involved, no one knows the cast of the new version of Another Round.
