The fourth season of The Witcher is starting to take shape after the departure of Henry Cavill. Unfortunately, months ago it was official that the British actor was going to stop playing the titular role in the next chapter. Even so, the show will continue and for that it has not only got his replacement, but an acclaimed actor to give life to an important character from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels in the new installment. The official X account of The Witcher announced that Laurence Fishburne, actor of franchises such as Matrix and John Wick, will play Regis. The post also describes the character as a "world-savvy surgeon-barber, but with a mysterious past."
Regis first appeared in Baptism of Fire, the fifth book in Sapkowski's The Witcher series of novels. The character is also mentioned in several of the video games, as well as appearing in Gwent: The Witcher Card Game and The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion. Laurence Fishburne has had no shortage of big screen roles over the years. Beyond his appearances in the Matrix sagas as Morpheus and in John Wick as King Bowery, he has also been part of the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp (2015) and Batman v Superman (2016).
Returning to The Witcher, although the third season is Cavill's last as the titular hero, actor Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will now headline the production beginning with the fourth season. The fantasy series also features a cast that includes Freya Allan as Princess Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg and Joey Batey as Jaskier. For now it is unknown when the fourth season will arrive on the platform.
All three seasons of The Witcher are available on Netflix.
