Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, known for works such as Boogie Nights (1997) and There Will Be Blood, is gearing up for his return to the big screen with a new film that promises to be his most commercial project to date. The untitled film will be under the direction of Anderson for Warner Bros., marking his collaboration with stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall.
The production, budgeted at approximately $100 million, according to Variety reports, will begin shooting this year in California. Paul Thomas Anderson will not only serve as director, but also take on the role of screenwriter, cementing his unique vision in cinematic storytelling. This film will be a production in collaboration with Sara Murphy (Never Rarely Sometimes Always) and Adam Somner (Ready Player One).
Despite the expectations generated around the project, details about the plot are still under wraps. All that has been revealed so far is that the story will take place in a contemporary universe and will feature a large cast, of which only a few prominent names have been announced, including DiCaprio, Penn and Hall. More details about the remaining cast members should be out in the coming weeks.
Also, this collaboration between Paul Thomas Anderson and Warner Bros. is not new. Current Warner Bros Pictures Group CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy previously worked with Anderson at MGM, producer of the director's latest, Licorice Pizza, released in 2021. The latter film explored the lives of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine, from their youth to falling in love, and received praise for its captivating narrative and unique approach.
With this new project, Anderson is once again looking to win over movie audiences with his storytelling skills.
