Blumhouse has finalized its goal of collaborating with Spanish filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra for a new project titled in its original language The Woman in the Yard. Over the past two decades, Collet-Serra has made his mark with features such as The Orphan (2009), Jungle Cruise (2021) and, most recently, DC's Black Adam (2022). While the plot of The Woman in the Yard is still under wraps, it is know that it will be a thriller with horror elements. In turn, actress Danielle Deadwyler (Watchmen), who recently collaborated with the filmmaker for the Netflix film, Carry On, will play the lead role and will be the film's executive producer.
Blumhouse's Jason Blum said, "I've been trying to find the right project to work with Jaume in our system for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume's vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler".
Blum added that his personal friend Stephanie Allain (The Exorcist: Believer) will be part of the project, which for him means having "a dream team" on board. Most recently, the Blumhouse production company was behind such hits as M3GAN and the adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's, which became the highest-grossing film in the horror genre in 2023.
While much remains under wraps about The Woman in the Yard, the announcement came with an early calendar date: January 10, 2025. Interestingly, this release window was previously reserved for the sequel to M3GAN, which will now arrive in May, four months later than expected. Details about this sequel are still under wraps, but we should have more details very soon.
